About the Florida East Coast Koi and Water Garden Society
Our club members are engaged in the
hobbies of keeping Koi and/or goldfish, and water gardening. Our
meetings are pond side social gatherings that enable the exchange of
information and the presentation of educational programs on a variety of
pond related topics.
During the year speakers are invited to talk to
members about special topics. While it is not always possible, we try
to serve both the Koi and water gardening areas equally. Most of our
members, but not all, have ponds and most reside in Flagler, Volusia,
Lake, and Brevard counties.
The club formed in January of
1998 prior to the first Orlando koi show. Our club has
been a participant of this annual event since the beginning.
The nearest club in those days was the Central Florida Koi Club,
now known as the Orlando Area Koi and Pond Club. The club
recently celebrated our 7th Anniversary at the January meeting.
Our group is a member club of the
Associated Koi Clubs of America,
publishers of the bi-monthly KOI USA magazine and other helpful
information in the form of books, guideline booklets, and
videos. The AKCA provides trained certified Koi judges
available to judge club sponsored Koi shows and Koi Health
Advisors to help owners troubleshoot pond problems. The
AKCA sponsors awards recognizing each club's Koi Person of the
Year, and the best pick of each club's fish for the Koi of the
Year photo award.
